Common questions
Can you repair my deck instead of replacing the whole thing?
Often yes. If the posts and frame are sound, we can replace just the surface and railing. If the frame is gone, rebuilding is the honest answer and we will show you why.
How do I know if the structure is bad?
Push a screwdriver into a post near the ground. If it sinks in, the wood is gone. Soft steps and a railing that moves are the other two signs we hear about most.
Do decks need a permit in Massachusetts?
Often they do, depending on size, height and your town. We will tell you what your job needs and how it gets handled before work starts.
Pressure-treated or composite?
Pressure-treated costs less up front and needs sealing. Composite costs more and needs almost nothing. We will quote both if you want to compare.
Do you build stairs on their own, without a deck?
Yes. Exterior stairs and landings are some of the most common work we do, especially on older homes where the original set has rotted out.
Can you work on a porch that is attached to the house?
Yes. That connection is exactly where water tends to get in, so it is worth looking at carefully.
